The explosive charecter of communal politics is seen  once agin in action in kaliachak of Malda, west Bengal. While the ruling parties at the centre and state BJP and TMC  continuing with their usual tactics Malda went burning. The blame game going  unabated so is the religious tension. This kind of communal tensions were not known to West Bengal in the 30+ yers of Left rule but with  TMC joining NDA in 1998 everything changed. Now both the parties are trying their worst to derive political benifit from the unfortunate carnage CPI(M) came out with a statement warning against fanning of religious hatred. Accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress and BJP of supplementing each other in politics, the opposition CPI-M  said that the present dispensation has failed to curb communal incidents in the state.”The recent Kaliachak incident has shown that the state government has completely failed to control communal incidents and overtones. During our regime, West Bengal was known as a pilgrimage of secularism. But now under TMC rule everything has changed,” Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Surya Kanta Mishra said.He lashed out at the administration for “complete lawlessness” in the state.

It all started with one Kamalesh Tiwari of sangh parivar making derogatory statement on Prophet Mohammad.(Which again BJP people claim is a reaction to comments made by Azamkhan UP minister who rediculed RSS men as homos. Tiwari in his turn attributed the traits to prophet fanning angry reactions from muslim minorities.) As  Malda  is an area having major muslim population and a strong base of congress leader late Ghanikhan choudary  the reaction is not unexpected. But what baffles anybody is that while the comments were made on December last the arson and riots erupted more than a month latter on Jan 6 resulting in destruction of properties particulerly the kaliachak police station.  Mamata govt did nothing to stop nor trace the roters. BJP made this a communal issue and accused her of appesment. in fact many Bjp men draw a parellel with dredful Dadri lynching. Social media went agog with stories of massacre. in fact one such comment and query that made me to go deep into the issue. while deaths were not reported this misplaced comparision with Dadri condemned by many right thinking people.

Chief Minister Manmatha insted of preventing the anrchy and restoring order went on to deny any communal clash. According to her it is clash between BSF base there and local people. The police acting on instructions from above denied permission on Monday.  to visiting delegation of three BJP mp’s  consisting of Bhupendra Yadav, Ramvilas vedanti and SSAluvalia. similer was the fate of a cpi(m) delegation. All this has furthered the suspicion on the role of TMC. There are allegations that  the Police station set on fire to demolish the records on the crimes of local criminal gangs. Both TMC and congress earlier are accused of  thriving  on these unsocial elements. Tmc is caught neck deep in Sarada chitfund scam and many other similer contraversies. Mamatha bringing BSF in is also a clever ploy to throw the blame at centre . BJP for whom cpi(m) is bigger enemy than Mamatha trying to look mainly  from  Hindu Muslim angle only and there by  creating nother tension spot. For Mamatha its a god sent oppertunity to woe muslim minorities in the election year.

All said and done what  Malda needs law and order and  peace and hormany as well. Erstwhile (may be future also) political allies TMC and BJP are  well advised to keep of communal calculations in this hour of danger.
